Each summer, Grocery Heroes Day recognizes employees in grocery stores and other parts of the food supply chain for the work they do feeding families. At Food Banks Canada, we’re pleased to highlight their crucial contributions to food banking. 

They have partnered with the Calgary Food Bank since 2010 and offer a wide range of programs for men, women, youth and adults. A big part of how they serve their clients is by making sure that basic needs are met, to help achieve this they take advantage of a few of our programs including Food Link.

During the cold snap of February 2024, I met with a gentleman – I’ll call Mike – in a community centre in the South of Calgary where he was hanging out during the day trying to stay warm.
